Our next show will be “Yeomen of the Guard” 18th–21st February 2009 Following last year’s very successful production of HMS Pinafore, our team are presenting Yeomen of the Guard. A later work, and the darkest of the Gilbert and Sullivan operas, Yeomen has real drama, and you don’t need to suspend disbelief as much as in many of Gilbert’s plots. It ends, not with the usual multiple marriages, but with a broken-hearted main character and at least two reluctant engagements. However, there is the usual Gilbertian satire, some excruciating puns, and plenty of topsy-turvy plot complications. Indeed, some enjoy Yeomen particularly because of its ever-changing emotional balance of joy and despair, love and sacrifice. A must for all G&S fans, and a good way of introducing the genre to folk who like a grander style of opera – many believe that the score is Sullivan’s finest. Don’t like coming out on dark nights? Then come to our Saturday matinee. Tickets are £10 (£9 concessions) and only £5 for under-16s on the Thursday evening or Saturday matinee. For bookings, please phone our ticket hot-line on 0845 2412 187. Performances start at 7.30pm (matinee 2.30pm). The Carnegie Hall is in East Port, Dunfermline, and the nearest public car park is off Viewfield Terrace. Click here for a location map and directions. What is it about? Who is taking part?
