Midsummer Musical Medley

Our concert on 20 June at the Vine Christian Church, Garvock Hill, pleased the audience: an excellent venue, and full value for money . . . as soon as we have a report and pictures, they’ll appear on the site.

One of the audience was heard to remark “This makes me feel like getting back on stage again”. If you felt that way, there’s an opportunity to join us for music rehearsals for Yeomen on 20 August (see below).

Auditions outcome

The auditions held on 22 June have resulted in all the parts for The Yeomen of the Guard being cast except Leonard Meryll and First/Second Yeomen, for which auditions will be held in August. Follow the link for the cast list.

Relay for Life

The Society is now signed up to take part in this event on the evening of 23 August, as you’ll see from the members page. For further information about other aspects of Relay for Life, which raises funds for Cancer Research UK, please talk to Geoff.

Make-up artist wanted

The Society would like to hear from any individual with experience of modern stage make-up. Knowledge of character make-up would definitely be required. Performances would take place during February 2009. This is a voluntary post, but reasonable travelling expenses would be paid. For further information please contact Mike Pendlowski, Production Manager, on 07867 517058 or e-mail mike@pendlowski.plus.com.

What did you think of our show?

In our Pinafore 2008 archive, the beginnings of which you will find at this link, we’ve included a review of our first night. Since then, we’ve heard many people comment what a great show it was, but we’ve seen nothing in writing.

Why don’t you remedy this by adding your brief critique? All you have to do is press this link, and your browser will open up a blank email with the subject line “What I thought of the show”.

All contributions are welcome, but please add your name and address. This will be cut down to initials and locality when quoting your kind words, but, as with the press, we like to be able to substantiate anything we put on the web site.

WELCOME TO OUR WEB SITE

The Dunfermline Gilbert and Sullivan Society is an amateur group aiming to foster and maintain a knowledge and appreciation of the works of W S Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan by the regular, public performance of their works (read more of our history here).

The Society is a registered charity: Scottish Charity Number SC030518.

Our main annual show is performed in the Carnegie Hall each February and is usually one of the Gilbert & Sullivan operettas. We also produce a Summer Concert held in late June each year.

NEW MEMBERS

If you want to sing with us, come along to the rehearsals for Yeomen of the Guard, which will be on Wednesdays at 7.30pm at Whitefield Day Centre, starting on 20 August.

And there are always things for non-singing members to do! If you are interested, please email us or contact our Administration Manager, Lyn, on 01383 723633.

KEEPING IN TOUCH

It’s always difficult to see at a glance when your favourite Society is performing, but Concert Diary have all our promotions on their web site, which is a useful place to look for other quality entertainment.

SET FOR SALE/HIRE

Everyone who came to our production of The Gondoliers said how impressed they were by the realism of the set, and by its marvellous sense of perspective. And the members enjoyed its ease of access for getting on and off the stage! But good things like this are better used, rather than kept in store, so the set is now available for sale or hire. See our Set for sale page for further information.
