Sid Jane
Sid first caught the bug for ‘getting up there and doing it’ in 1967. Whilst working for HM Dockyard in Singapore he joined the Naval Base Players, performing in the chorus in productions of Merry England, Iolanthe, and The Yeomen of the Guard. He chose not to take part in the annual Panto’s but left that to his wife Doreen and his daughter Elizabeth. On his return from sunnier climes in 1970 he searched for a way to express his musical spirit. Sid performed with the Civil Service Male Voice Choir and the Dunfermline Choral Union. After a rewarding and enjoyable few years he decided a new challenge was called for, so Dunfermline Gilbert And Sullivan Society was his next target. Sid joined us in 1982 for our summer concert, which included Trial by Jury. After spending the next 3 years happy in the chorus he decided to take a chance and auditioned for Private Willis in our 1985 production of Iolanthe. With this successful audition and the buzz he got from performing as a principal there was no stopping him. Sid has taken a step back in the last couple of years to, in his own words (a) give the youngsters a chance (b) spend more time with the Wife (c) see more of his grandchildren. He continues to perform with us and may yet go for it again. Principal Parts with Dunfermline Gilbert & Sullivan Society |
