Michael McFarlane

Michael's association with the society dates back to 1985 when he was still at school and he performed in the chorus of Iolanthe.  He returned in 1988 to play Luiz in the Gondoliers and then in 1989 to play Frederic in Pirates.

The Pirates of Penzance is probably Michael’s favourite Gilbert & Sullivan operetta and Frederic is certainly his favourite tenor role.  He has performed in the show six times - four times as Frederic - three of these opposite Linda as Mabel, and twice as Major General Stanley at school and in a youth production of "Broadway Pirates".

Michael is also a member of Kirkcaldy Gilbert & Sullivan Society and has played many of the lead roles including Marco in Gondoliers, Ralph in Pinafore and Frederic in "The Pirates of Pittenweem" alongside Linda and Robin.

Michael lives in Kirkcaldy with his wife Deirdre and daughter Emma, both of whom share his passion for Musical Theatre.  Last year he was fortunate enough to be cast as Anatoly Sergievsky in Kirkcaldy Amateur Operatic Society's production of Chess playing opposite Deirdre as Florence.  It looks like Emma is going to to follow in her father’s footsteps as she has just played her first principal role in the musical Annie.

In his spare time Michael works for ASDA as a Customer Services Manager and also enjoys cooking and entertaining with the odd glass of red, white or even rose wine!
